Friendly's Reading Program

Elementary students in the Norfolk and Chesapeake Public Schools, as well as the Norfolk Tides, have teamed up for the fourth year in a row to put together a reading program for students to earn Tides' tickets.

Students are required to keep track of the amount of books they read over an alloted time. Depending on their grade level, they will then turn in their reading log to their teacher. Once they have done so the teachers will let them know how many free tickets they have earned for Tides games in May, June, July and August/September. If the child completes the necessary amount of books, they will also recieve a free Kids Meal, courtesy of Friendlys restaurant!

The Tides are excited to take part in a program that promotes literacy and encourages children to read!

In 2007, Mrs. Phillips' 1st Grade Class from Deep Creek Elementary was the classroom that read the most books from Kindergarten to Second Grade. They read a total of 1818 books in the month of March, and won a pizza party with Rip Tide.

National Anthem Auditions

If you’d like to participate in a performance of the National Anthem at Harbor Park, please read the following:

Audition via Recording
If you missed the open auditions in early March, or are part of a performing group that is larger than four people, you should consider auditioning via a recording.

You may submit a recording on cassette tape, CD, or via digital audio file. Your recording should be a performance with no instrumental accompaniment. Also, your recording should be a performance of the National Anthem. Any performances of songs other than the National Anthem will not be considered.

When sending a cassette tape or CD, please include a contact person’s name, a phone number, and an e-mail address. You may send cassette tapes or CDs to the following address:

Norfolk Tides Baseball Club
Attn: National Anthem
Harbor Park – 150 Park Ave
Norfolk, VA 23510

(Please note that the Tides will not return any cassette tapes or CDs you send)

If you are sending a digital audio file (.mp3, .wma, .wav, etc.), please send the file as an attachment to receptionist@norfolktides.com. In your message, please include a contact person’s name and a phone number.

Please Note…
The number of slots the Tides have available for National Anthem performers is limited, so you are encouraged to either participate in the Open Auditions or send your recording prior to the beginning of the baseball season. Once the season has begun, most slots have been filled and the Tides may not be able to offer you the opportunity to perform.
